Winners, Losers, and AI
Are You Ready for Change?
All technology revolutions create winners and losers. Some organizations learn to thrive under the new conditions, while others, typically those that hold on too long to the old ways, crash and die. When they do, it looks and feels like a train wreck (hence the image from France in 1895).
It’s been that way throughout the last two millennia, as society has progressed through wave after wave of disruptive breakthroughs that have brought us into the modern era.
And now AI is bringing the same, but perhaps even more so, because it’s so fast. It’s upending business, the economy, and society, and the changes continue to accelerate.
Two weeks ago I had the chance to explore all this with 800 systems engineers at the INCOSE annual conference in Ottawa. INCOSE is the International Council of Systems Engineers. They’re the ones who design jet aircraft, large ships, power plants, and other complex, high tech marvels of the modern world. Their work is highly technical, and I used the talk to examine how AI might affect what they do.
I told them that it’s a revolution, and I also wanted to sell them on the idea that AI’s impact would be so fundamental that there would inevitably be winners and losers among their own firms, the ones that do systems engineering.
I’ve posted the video of my talk to our AI Impact and Strategy YouTube channel,
so you can see for yourself if you agree with me or not, and also how the 800 people felt – because at the end of the talk I asked them, and they told me!
The next day I led a workshop for emerging leaders in the INCOSE community, and of course we explored what their own organizations need to do to assure that they’re winners I the new era.
And just how much time do we have to get ready? Watch the video and you’ll get my answer to that super important question.

This talk and workshop were the fourth keynote and fourth workshop I’ve led in the last couple months, and through them all I’ve really been able to really hone the message and deliver big impacts to the audience. People are getting the message, and they’re taking it very seriously (as they should).
Giving these talks and workshops is a lot of fun and I’m learning everywhere I go. Thus, I’m actively looking for more opportunities to share the message, so please let me know if your organization needs to hear this message too. I’m offering a generous 50% discount off my normal fees if you mention that you’re a subscriber to our newsletter, and I’m also offering a nice bonus pack of our printed materials if you make an introduction to a prospective group.
In addition to our two recent books, The AI Nation and The AI Future, we’ve created a highly detailed workbook that poses the critically important questions that you need to ask yourself as you begin to prepare for the consequences of AI for yourself and your organization.
So are you ready to be a winner in the next era? Let us help you …
